Built in 2010, this certified passive house was a challenge of the architectural team to build a high-performance building in a short amount of time. Wanting to demonstrate a home-of-tomorrow, the building was created with the support of NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research Development Authority) in the High Performance Energy Challenge.
The home derives all of its energy-efficient performance from its intrinsic design, and does not rely on solar panels or other external renewable energy sources. The house is expected to save ~90% in energy costs. The barn-inspired structure departs from modern passive house designs and was made to fit with the historical structures in the Hudson Valley.
